Unlocking the Future: Dublin IreLUG Recap

What an electric day in Dublin! Seeing the room packed at The Masonry (151 Thomas St, The Liberties) for our latest IreLUG meetup reminded me exactly why this community is so special. 🇮🇪⚙️

It’s been a minute since we all caught up in the capital, and the energy was palpable. This wasn't about any one company; it was a pure, community-driven effort to swap war stories, challenge our current workflows, and push the boundaries of what we can build in the test engineering space.

Session Highlights

Modernizing Source Control

Chris Roebuck (Chief Technical Support Engineer EMEA, Emerson/NI) kicked things off by cutting through the noise on Git integration within LabVIEW. We moved past the theory and looked at the practical, day-to-day wins:

• Static Code Analysis: We explored how to lean on VI Analyzer to catch those sneaky architectural issues and performance bottlenecks before they ever hit the production hardware.

• Workflow Automation: By building these checks into our CI/CD pipelines, we ensure that only high-quality, robust code makes it to the repository.

• Get the Deck: We believe in open-sourcing our knowledge. If you missed the session, reach out—we’re more than happy to pass along the presentation slides for your own team’s reference.

🤖 AI-Accelerated Development

The conversation naturally shifted to how Ajay started integrating AI tools in test & measurement projects, showcased how we've been using LLMs like Claude or Gemini to take the grunt work out of development:

• The Velocity Shift: By requirement analysis and other script based coding tasks to AI, we’ve successfully condensed timelines that used to take months down to just a few weeks. We are happy to see the community has taken away key learning where AI helps and where AI lags. We found wherever deep hardware centric area, manual intervention is almost always needed and wherever there is scripting based coding or documentation results are 90% accelerated.

• See it in Action: We put together a straightforward, no-fluff HTML presentation that walks through these strategies. Let us know if you want a copy.

Open Topics Discussion

The energy truly peaked during our open discussion session, where the floor belonged to the attendees. This segment highlighted exactly how actively this community can engage with National Instruments and key industry stakeholders.

• Automotive Integration: Paul shared technical insights on implementing NI USB-to-CAN and other CAN-based cards for automotive testing architectures.

• The Workers Framework: A major topic of interest was the Workers Framework. As it gains popularity—built on top of DQMH with an object-oriented approach—it sparked a lively discussion from Diego and Vernon.

• Driving the Roadmap: Attendees using the Workers Framework on a daily basis made a strong case for its importance, directly requesting that the NI team provide more support and visibility for this framework in future sessions. Based on this feedback, we are already planning to feature dedicated content around the Workers Framework in our next round of IreLUG.

Looking Ahead

A massive thank you to everyone who made the trip to Dublin. The technical depth of the conversations proved that the Irish test engineering community is very much at the forefront of automation.
